The transthoracic echocardiogram uses ultrasound to obtain moving images of the heart. It is a painless, highly informative test that requires no prior preparation and is performed by placing a transducer on the patient’s chest.
With the help of Doppler and two-dimensional imaging, the heart’s structures are assessed: chamber size, wall thickness, valve function, and overall heart muscle contraction.
It can rule out up to 90% of the most common heart diseases, making it a key test for diagnosing heart failure, valve disorders, congenital heart disease, and other cardiac conditions.
