The 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitor is a portable device that automatically measures blood pressure throughout the day and night during the patient’s normal daily activities, including sleep.
This ambulatory measurement allows the detection of blood pressure patterns that may not be evident in a consultation, such as white-coat hypertension or nocturnal hypertension, which have important clinical significance.
With this information, the physician can more accurately adjust antihypertensive treatment or evaluate the need to start one, based on the patient’s real-life blood pressure.
